Product appearance and construction
Double glazed glass rooflight with slender aluminium frame which is powder-coated grey (RAL9016) on the outside and white (RAL9010) on the inside. It is designed for use on flat roofs and low pitch roofs. The glazing units are made using a toughened safety glass outer pane (tested to comply with BS EN12150 and BS 1279) and a unique laminated inner glass pane. In the event of accidental breakage, the laminated pane will protect from falling glass. The glazing units are angled at 25° on all sizes.
Points to consider when fitting - even if you're not doing the fitting you should read this
Aesthetics, this roof lantern can be fitted on an upstand with a pitch of upto 5 degrees, but please consider this will result in a lopsided appearance. It's the kind of thing you cannot unsee. Homeowners, Architects and designers, please pay attention that it's best to mount this roof lantern on a level upstand, given that a flat roof isn't actually flat. It always has a gentle pitch to aid water disperal runs downhill it does mean whoever builds your roof will need to make some very accurate angled cuts to the bottom edge when creating the upstand. While this is not outside the skillset of some, this kind of attention to detail doesn't come as standard with every contractor. See below for an illustration showing a cross section of the upstand and roof.
The roof lanterns need to be fitted onto a weathered upstand, this is the only time silocone sealant will be needed. All glazing units have factory fitted seals, not additional work required here. Please see below for weights.

Glazing performance and light transmission
All double glazed units use self-clean glass and benefit from a soft coat Low E coating. In winter this helps reflect heat back into the room, in summer it helps keep the room cooler than it would otherwise be. Two glazing options are availaible, clear and blue solar control. Clear glass gives the best light transmission with a higher solar gain (expressed as G-Value). Blue solar control glass has a lower light transmisison but a signifcantly lower solar gain as demonstrated below.

Thermal Performance
Varies from 1.86- 2.01 W/m2K - This exceeds Part L Building regulations which requires no higher than 2.2 W/m2K - see page 3 of product datasheet more detail on individual sizes.
Acoustic Performance
Direct airborne sound insulation value of 35db (RW)
Wind and snow loads
Tested to resist wind loads calculated as specified by BS EN 1991-1-4: 2005 and imposed loads in accordance with BS EN 1873: 2005.
Use of blinds
In certain conditions laminated safety glass can experience thermal stress fracture if there is an uneven build up of heat below it. Installation of blinds, or any other alterations made to the lightwell below the rooflight, must be done so with consideration to the risk of thermal stress fracture. In the case of blinds, the risk of thermal stress fracture can never be fully removed, but it can be reduced by choosing light coloured blinds and positioning them as far away from the glass as possible.
