Catches and Poles

Loft hatch catches and poles are the accessories that make everyday loft access easier and safer. A catch keeps the hatch firmly closed within the ceiling, while an opening pole lets you operate the hatch from floor level — its hooked end engages the hatch or ladder so you can pull it down or push it closed without climbing on anything.

Our opening poles work with all Jupiter Blue loft hatches, and many other designs too. They're part of our wider loft hatch range.

What the opening pole does
The opening pole does two jobs, both from the safety of your landing: it opens hinged loft hatches, and it reaches and lowers retractable loft ladders — no standing on furniture or balancing on a separate ladder. The hooked end engages the hatch or ladder, so you pull down to open and push to close. It works with all our hinged loft hatches (the exception being hatches specified with a key-lock option), and with many other manufacturers' hatches as well. Poles come in two lengths to suit different ceiling heights.

What the catch does
The heavy-duty loft hatch catch is designed to hold a timber loft door firmly closed within the ceiling when it's not in use — useful on heavier hatches that would otherwise sit loose. It suits timber loft doors up to 18mm thick and works alongside our opening pole, so you can secure and release the hatch from below.

Choosing the right pole
Pick a pole length that lets you reach and operate the hatch comfortably, without stretching or straining. With two sizes covering most ceiling heights, there's an option for standard rooms and for higher ceilings — if you're not sure which you need, our team can help.

Frequently asked questions

Will the opening pole work with my loft hatch?
The pole opens all Jupiter Blue hinged loft hatches — the one exception being hatches specified with a key-lock option — and it's compatible with many other manufacturers' hinged hatches and retractable ladders too. If you're not sure about a particular hatch, send us the details and we'll confirm.
What loft doors does the catch suit?
The heavy-duty steel catch is designed for timber loft doors up to 18mm thick, holding heavier hatches firmly closed when not in use. It works alongside our opening pole, so you can secure and release the hatch from floor level.
Which pole length do I need?
We offer poles in two lengths to cover different ceiling heights. Choose the one that lets you reach and operate the hatch comfortably without stretching — if you're between sizes or have an unusually high ceiling, our team can point you to the right one.
Are poles safer than using a ladder or standing on furniture?
Yes — a pole lets you open and close the hatch, and lower a retractable ladder, from the floor. That means no climbing onto furniture or balancing on a separate ladder just to reach the hatch, which is a common cause of avoidable falls.
